Drinking water purification and disinfection

Know-how and technology transfer on modern procedures and technologies for the provision of cleaned and disinfected drinking water

Mongolia faces enormous challenges in securing its freshwater resources; among other things, increasing water withdrawals with generally scarce water availability, impairments of water quality through agriculture, mining and industry as well as outdated water supply and disposal infrastructures.

Drinking water in Mongolia is obtained from surface, spring and ground water. As a rule, hygienic standards cannot be complied with. Natural conditions (e.g. large frost penetration depths in winter), the lack of efficient water distribution and insufficient knowledge of groundwater conditions make the management of water resources considerably more difficult. This mix of causes can sometimes lead to contamination of water as a foodstuff that is hazardous to health and have a negative impact on the hygiene and health of the population.

Duration: 2020-2023

Project goal:

In cooperation with Bau Bildung Sachsen e.V., bau msr GmbH would like to contribute to the development of integrated water resource management in Mongolia. A decentralized modular drinking water purification and disinfection system is used for this purpose.

During the project and beyond, the students and trainees of a model college in Ulan Bator, the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET), should get to know and learn how to use processes and technologies for providing cleaned and disinfected drinking water in buildings.

Contents:

bau msr GmbH designs a complete training system, manufactures it in Germany and puts it into operation at the Mongolian training partner.

BBSN develops tailor-made curricula and teaching materials on the subject of drinking water purification and disinfection. The newly developed training modules will be included in the training partner's curriculum. We train selected IET teachers to become experts in the new subject area. The teachers trained in this way then qualify their trainees and students for the new technical know-how in the field of drinking water from Germany, and then also in the long term after the end of the project. The demonstration system always forms a central reference point for all training courses.

Widespread workshops and information events during the project period are intended to further increase awareness of the bau msr GmbH approach on site.

Tasks of Bau Bildung Sachsen e.V.:

We take over the creation, preparation and coordination of training documents and moderate the inclusion of the new content in the curriculum of the Mongolian education partner. We train the teachers on site together with the experts from bau msr GmbH and advise our Mongolian colleagues on how to convey the new content in their own lessons. In addition, Bau Bildung Sachsen fulfills coordinating tasks in the area of project management throughout the course of the project.
